Indeed, sometimes the etymologies of the words is something that you cannot wrap your head around. For me one of such words is the word bidet which comes from French and in French is used to denote - bear with me - a pony!
Apparently, the word started to be used in the fashion it has been used up till date owing to an astonishing parallel of mounting which a pony and a bidet, they say, share. Leaving, however, the etymological part aside and accepting things as they are, let us now discuss the numerous advantages which a bidet certainly has. For centuries, a bidet has been used as an appliance in which people wash their genitals, buttocks and anus. Interestingly, the conventional tips as regards using a bidet are the following. When you are trying to wash your genitals, no matter whether you are a woman or a man, it is advisable that you sit facing the tap. However, while you wash your buttocks and anus, it is much more comfortable to sit with your back to the tap. Apart from serving this function, some people also use a bidet to wash their feet when they don' t feel like having a bath or taking a shower.
